Management 
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) 
Dr Namyong Kim


Namyong Kim brings with him more than 10 years of experiences in scientific research and technical management in the development of biotech instrumentation. He holds more than 10 patents and patent applications, and has published a number of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. 

Prior to coming to Singapore, Namyong was based in US where he had the opportunity to work with early-stage high-tech ventures and multinational companies. At BioTrove, Namyong led a chemistry group in the development of the OpenArray™ platform, a miniaturized chip-based platform for homogeneous biological assays. Earlier to that, he worked with the two-cofounders of Arradial as the Director of Chemistry, and contributed to growing the company into a 15-person team. At Agilent Technologies, Namyong worked on the optimization and commercialization of DNA microarrays as a Research Scientist. 

Namyong received his PhD in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and his BSc from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). 

General Manager (GM)
Mr Tan Yew Bock

Mr Tan is the General Manager of Curiox, and runs the Singapore operations. Formerly, Mr Tan was the Director of Supply Chain Management and the Worldwide Business Director/Plant Manager in the Critical Care Products department within Becton, Dickinson and Company. Mr Tan was with the firm for 12 years and has obtained invaluable expertise in production and manufacturing.

CEO, Experimental Therapeutic Centre (ETC) 
Dr Alex Matter


Dr Matter is best known for his contribution to the development of Glivec/ Gleevec, one of the world's first tyrosine kinase inhibitor drugs for cancer therapy. Dr Matter led a team of around 200 scientists at Novartis to discover and optimize the lead compound, bringing it all the way through its first clinical trial in 1998. In a short span of 3 years, Gleevec was given a rare, fast track FDA approval in 2001. 

Prior to ETC, Dr Matter was the founding director for the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) in 2003. Under his leadership, NITD successfully implemented research programs in the areas of dengue fever, tuberculosis and malaria attracting major grants from the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. 

A medical doctor by training, Dr. Matter received his medical degree from the University of Basel and did immunology and pathology research in Switzerland, Britain, France and the US before entering into the pharmaceutical industry. He has published more than 100 scientific articles plus several book chapters in the area of oncology and hematology. He is the recipient of the 13th Warren-Alpert prize and the AACR-Bruce F. Cain Memorial Award. 

Executive VP and General Manager, Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd
Chew Loong Yap


Chew Loong Yap is Executive Vice President and General Manager at Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd, the marketing and commercialization arm of Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). He has more than 30 years of managerial experiences in manufacturing, operations, and sales and marketing in medical technology products. Prior to Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd, he was Country General Manager of China/Hong Kong for Becton Dickenson (BD), a multi-billion dollar multinational Fortune 500 company with headquarter in the USA. 

He spent over 18 years at BD while being promoted from Manufacturing Manager, Plant Manager and then to General Manager. Previously, he worked for ST Kinetics in Singapore for various managerial roles in manufacturing. He received his Bachelor Degree in Engineering from University of Malaya, and MSc Degree in Industrial Engineering and MBA from National University of Singapore. 

Executive Director, Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology 
Jackie Y. Ying


Jackie Y. Ying was born in Taipei, and raised in Singapore and New York, and graduated with B.E. summa cum laude in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union in 1987. As an AT&T Bell Laboratories Ph.D. Scholar at Princeton University, she began research in materials chemistry, linking the importance of materials processing and microstructure with the tailoring of materials surface chemistry and energetics. 

She pursued research in nanocrystalline materials with Prof. Herbert Gleiter at the Institute for New Materials, Saarbrücken, Germany as NSF-NATO Post-doctoral Fellow and Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow. Prof. Ying has been on the Chemical Engineering faculty at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 1992, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1996 and to Professor in 2001. 

Director, Head of Portfolio Management
Andreas Kroell


Andreas brings in a broad know-how and network in nanotechnology and its key industries, in particular life sciences, oncology, solar and new materials. 

His professional experience is based on a career in corporate finance, including his role as a teamand project leader for major international corporate finance firm Deloitte & Touche, where he was involved in projects such as the merger of Deutsche Telekom / T-Online. During his time at the corporate finance division of leading investment bank Deutsche Bank he was involved in a large number of M&A- and Equity-transactions such as i.e. the IPO of Deutsche Boerse AG. Andreas holds a German CPA-equivalent and graduated as Master of Business at Goethe University Frankfurt a. M. His studies also included one year at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, USA.
