Evaluating centrifuge-free automation after SLAS

Thank you for visiting Curiox at SLAS and engaging with our centrifuge-free automation demonstrations! This page brings together the data, examples, and context automation teams most often asked for when evaluating whether centrifugation can be replaced by your liquid handler.

Use the resources below to assess function, performance, and deployment options.

C-FREE™ Pluto Code: Software-defined centrifuge-free washing

At the core of C-FREE™ technology is Pluto Code, a script library that enables centrifuge-free washing on standard liquid-handling platforms. Instead of relying on centrifugation, it uses controlled pipetting motions to precisely regulate fluid flow around cells, enabling effective liquid exchange without mechanical force.

By eliminating the need for centrifugation, Pluto Code standardizes the wash step across workflows and instruments without requiring additional hardware integrations.

How teams are deploying centrifuge-free washing

Centrifuge-free washing is easy to implement in your automated workflows and scalable across large, multi-site organizations. Automation teams typically deploy the C-FREE approach in one of two ways:

Pluto Code – script library for existing liquid handlers

Hamilton · Beckman Coulter · Tecan · Opentrons

Pluto Code can be implemented on supported liquid-handling platforms, allowing teams to standardize wash steps without changing their core automation infrastructure.

Highlights from our Tutorial – AstraZeneca, ETH Zurich, & Curiox

Less Hardware, Better Cell Retention, User-Agnostic

Ozzie Civelekoglu (1)

Dr. Ozzie Civelekoglu, AstraZeneca

“The staining process from start to finish is fully integrated. If you already have a liquid handler, you continue to use your own system. It eliminates multiple pieces of equipment and simplifies the overall schedule for end-to-end automation.”

Bernd

Dr. Bernd Wollscheid, ETH Zurich

“This centrifuge-free workflow allows us to scale and generate reproducible data across larger datasets. We can spend more time analyzing the data and thinking about experimental design, while leaving the execution to the Curiox/Opentrons system.”
