Pluto ALPHA

Centrifuge-free cell washing — simple, gentle, and affordable automation

Replace harsh, manual centrifugation with a compact, pipette-based washing station designed to preserve cell integrity, reduce hands-on time, and deliver reproducible results for everyday sample prep.

A low-cost, low-touch entry to laboratory automation: Pluto ALPHA uses an advanced 96-channel pipette head and pre-configured wash protocols to deliver gentle, centrifuge-free washing or media exchange for suspension cells and beads — no centrifuges or robotic arms required. Pluto ALPHA is suitable for adherent or suspension cells.

Why Pluto ALPHA

  • Centrifuge-free by design — eliminates disruptive spins and mechanical stress, improving viability and morphology for sensitive assays.
  • Gentle, reproducible washing — pipette-based liquid handling limits shear and operator variability.
  • Ready-to-run protocols — Light, Moderate, Heavy and Ultra wash intensities are pre-loaded for minimal setup.
  • Lab-friendly compatibility — works with Curiox standard 96-well microplates, deep-well plates and Laminar Wash plates.
  • Affordable automation — priced below $30,000, positioned as an accessible entry point to automation.
  • Small footprint — compact benchtop machine for labs with limited space or suitable for inside a biosafety cabinet.
  • Suspension or adherent cell types — gentle washing for adherent, semi-adherent, or suspension cell types.
  • Minimal Maintenance — functioning much like a pipette station, Pluto ALPHA offers a maintenance-free experience, minimizing downtime and reducing operational costs.

How it works — 4 simple steps

  1. Load samples into standard 96-well plates or Laminar Wash plates.
  2. Select a pre-configured wash (Light/Moderate/Heavy/Ultra) or a custom program.
  3. Pluto ALPHA’s 96-channel pipette head performs gentle aspiration and dispensing cycles that remove supernatant and add wash buffer without spinning. Typical wash cycles run 3–10 minutes depending on the protocol.
  4. Collect plate and continue downstream — fewer manual transfers, improved reproducibility, reduced hands-on time.

Workflow Improvements

Pre-Loaded Protocols: Pluto ALPHA includes multiple pre-programmed wash options tailored to meet a variety of assay needs, such as Light, Moderate, and Heavy wash intensities.

Reduced Hands-On Time: Automation allows researchers to focus on higher-value tasks while the device handles washing.

Enhanced Reproducibility: Standardized washing protocols ensure consistent results across experiments.

Streamlined Setup: Simplified workflow eliminates the need for centrifugation, flicking, or resuspension steps, making cell washing easier than ever.

Customization Options

  • Flexible throughput by configuring pipette tips
  • Customizable wash parameters
  • General liquid handling functions such as serial dilutions* (upcoming software features)
